Former Willamette softball star Kelli (Snyder) Gilliland, who served as a volunteer assistant coach in 2013-14 and was the interim head coach in the spring of 2015, has returned to the Bearcats as assistant softball coach for 2018-19. While serving as a volunteer assistant, Gilliland also provided administrative support for the Athletics Department on an interim basis. In 2014-15, she served as the business operations coordinator for Athletics until she was named interim head coach for Head Coach Damian Williams' sabbatical that spring.
As a softball catcher for the Bearcats, Gilliland was an outstanding contributor to the team. She was named Third Team All-West Region as a senior in 2013 after leading the Bearcats with a .436 batting average, .532 on-base percentage, .653 slugging percentage, 44 hits and 13 doubles.
She was named First Team All-NWC in 2010, 2012 and 2013. She was the co-winner of the 2013 Jean Williams Award, which is presented annually to Willamette's top senior female student-athlete.
Gilliland holds many rankings on Willamette's top 10 lists in softball. Her on-base percentage, doubles total, and batting average from 2013 all rank third on the single season list. She is fifth all-time in single-season slugging percentage.
On WU's career lists she is third with a .457 on-base percentage and is fifth with a .364 batting average. She is seventh in several categories with a .533 slugging percentage, 63 RBIs, 24 doubles and 10 home runs. She ranks eighth with 177 total bases and ninth with 121 hits.
