Sam Adelman is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Willamette men's soccer team in 2019. In addition to coaching at Willamette, Adelman is the performance manager intern for the Portland Thorns in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). He holds a "D" coaching license and is working on his "C" license.
Adelman attended Willamette four four years and was a student-athlete on the men's soccer team from 2012-13 through 2015-16. He was an outside defender for the Bearcats. He graduated from Willamette in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science.
He was nominated for the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) Competitive Coach of the Year Award for 2016-17. He has coached in several positions with the Capital FC Timbers soccer club in Salem, Oregon. In the summer of 2017, he starting as the assistant coach and fitness coordinator with the WPSL team, before finishing the season as the interim head coach. He was am assistant coach with the Boys 1999 Red team in the winter of 2016 and the spring of 2017. He has served as the head coach of the 2004 Red team since the summer of 2016.
Adelman led the 2004 Red team to first place in the Division 1 League of the OYSA in the fall of 2017. In the summer of 2017, helped the team win the Mount Hood Challenge Gold Division title in Oregon and take second place at the Crossfire Challenge in Seattle, Washington. The team reached the quarterfinals of the OYSA President's Cup in the fall of 2016.
