Koon Chosen NWC Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Tiras Koon (Sr., 1B, Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts during a three-game series against George Fox University on Feb. 28 and March 1. Koon hit .545 over the weekend (6 of 11) and blasted three home runs.
Belts Three Home Runs in Series against George Fox
SALEM, ORE. -- Tiras Koon (Sr., 1B, Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts during a three-game series against George Fox University on Feb. 28 and March 1. Koon hit .545 over the weekend (6 of 11) and blasted three home runs.
Koon helped Willamette win the series, 2-1. The Bearcats took the first game, 11-1, and won the second game, 6-0. GFU outscored Willamette 6-4 in the third game.
During the series, Koon scored five times and recorded seven RBIs. He also walked twice. He achieved at least one hit and one run in all three games. On defense at first base, he recorded 29 putouts and two assists with no errors.
Koon was 3 for 5 in the first game with two runs, a three-run homer and a total of four RBIs. In the third game, he went 2 for 2 with two homers, two runs and three RBIs.
For the season, Koon leads the Bearcats with a .395 batting average, a .698 slugging percentage and a .527 on-base percentage. He also ranks first on the team with three home runs, 11 walks and 16 RBIs. He is second on the roster with 12 runs scored and is tied for second with four doubles. He owns a .983 fielding percentage and leads the team with 116 putouts.
Willamette will host Pacific Lutheran University in NWC action this weekend. The Bearcats will play the Lutes in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7, starting at 11 a.m. (PST). The teams will conclude the series with one game on Sunday, March 8 at 12 p.m. (PDT).
