Conway Named NWC Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, Ore. -- Freshman second baseman Troy Conway (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) from Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in a three-game sweep of Lewis & Clark College on March 21-22. Willamette improved to 16-4, including 9-4 in the NWC.
Hits .571 with a Double, Four Runs and Three RBIs in Sweep of Pioneers
SALEM, Ore. -- Freshman second baseman Troy Conway (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) from Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in a three-game sweep of Lewis & Clark College on March 21-22. Willamette improved to 16-4, including 9-4 in the NWC.
Conway helped the Bearcats win both games in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 21, as Willamette moved past the Pioneers 8-2 and 9-0. He also contributed on Sunday, March 22, when the Bearcats completed the sweep with a 14-3 victory.
Over the weekend, Conway batted .571 (8 of 14) with four runs and three RBIs. He hit a double, received one walk and was successful on 2 of 2 stolen base attempts. He earned a .643 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. On defense, he registered five putouts and seven assists with no errors.
Conway's efforts at the plate helped Willamette total 40 hits and 31 runs with a .377 team batting average during the series. The Bearcats limited L&C to 22 hits and just five runs.
Against L&C, Conway earned at least one hit and one RBI in every game over the weekend, including two games with three or more hits. He was 1 for 5 in the opener, then went 3 for 4 in the second game and was 4 for 5 in the third game.
Willamette will remain at home to take on crosstown rival Corban University on Tuesday, March 24. Game time at John Lewis Field is set for 3 p.m. (PDT).
The Bearcats will play a three-game NWC series at Linfield College on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. (PDT), followed by one game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
