Baseball Series against Pomona-Pitzer is Canceled
SALEM, Ore. -- The non-conference baseball series between Willamette University and the Pomona-Pitzer College (Calif.), scheduled for Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17, has been canceled due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Willamette and the Sagehens were originally set to play two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. The games will not be rescheduled. Willamette is attempting to replace the games either this weekend or by adding to the remaining schedule, but nothing has been arranged at this time.
Willamette, Pomona-Pitzer, the Northwest Conference, and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference are committed to the health and safety of student-athletes. The conferences and their members continue to monitor and work within local, state, federal, and NCAA health directives.
The next scheduled game for the Willamette baseball team is a non-conference contest at Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, April 30 in Tacoma, Washington. Game time is set for 3 p.m. (PDT).
Willamette also might play in the Northwest Conference Tournament, scheduled for April 22-24, but tournament selections will not be released until after this weekend's NWC games are completed. It's also possible that tournament selections may have to wait until a make-up game between Lewis & Clark College and the University of Puget Sound is played on Tuesday, April 19 in Tacoma. Entering this weekend, eight of the nine NWC teams are still in the running for the four NWC Tournament bids.
