SALEM, ORE. -- Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) of Willamette University has been chosen Second Team All-West Region by D3Hoops.com. The All-West Region squad was determined in voting by Sports Information Director from throughout the Region.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has chosen its new head coaches for the men's basketball and women's basketball teams. Both coaches have been hired from within Willamette's own coaching staff. In fact, both coaches have significant ties to Willamette, including playing basketball for the Bearcats in college.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands), who led the Northwest Conference with 11.8 rebounds per game and ranked third in scoring with 16.7 points per contest, has been selected First Team All-NWC by the league's head men's basketball coaches. Kyler McClary (Sr., Post, Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS) of Willamette earned Second Team All-NWC honors for the second season in a row.
SALEM, ORE. -- Head Coach Gordie James of the Willamette University men's basketball team has announced his retirement following the conclusion of his 22nd season as the leader of Bearcat Hoop. James will remain on the Willamette Athletics staff through the end of the current semester.
SALEM, ORE. -- The University of Puget Sound men's basketball team finished the 2008-09 Northwest Conference season with an undefeated record -- barely -- as the Loggers rallied from a 15-point deficit with 8:34 remaining to defeat Willamette University, 75-74, at Cone Field House on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Willamette kept its NWC Tournament hopes alive at 12-10 overall, 8-7 in the NWC.
WU Sweeps Homestand to Remain Alive in Playoff Chase: Coming off a weekend sweep of Pacific University and Lewis and Clark College, the Willamette University menâ??s basketball team finds itself one game out of the NWC Tournament with two games left to play. At 11-10 overall, and 7-7 in the NWC, WU is chasing both Linfield College (8-6 NWC) and Lewis & Clark (9-5 NWC) for the final two berth into the four-team tournament.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/U. of Redlands) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in two wins by the Bearcats this past weekend. Mitchell averaged 16.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 65.0% from the field (13 of 20). He also blocked a total of six shots, recorded three steals and earned two assists during the week.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University trailed by eight points at halftime, but the Bearcats shot 52.4% in the second half to rally past Lewis & Clark College, 60-58, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House on Saturday, Feb. 14. Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/U. of Redlands) led the Bearcats with 16 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University received a double-double from junior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/U. of Redlands), as the Bearcats rolled past Pacific University, 81-71, in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Feb. 13. Willamette led 79-61 with 1:58 left, before both teams put in their remaining subs and the Boxers closed the game with a 10-2 run.

Willamette lost on Friday, Feb. 6 at Whitworth University, 77-65, and fell on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Whitman College in overtime, 88-84.
WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Willamette University rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final eight minutes to force overtime, but Whitman College battled back in the extra session to defeat the Bearcats, 88-84, at the Sherwood Center on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Missionaries improved to 8-13 overall, 4-8 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette fell to 9-10 overall, 5-7 in the NWC.
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Senior post Kyler McClary (Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS) of Willamette University scored 23 points to pass the 1,000-point mark in his career, but Whitworth University ended the game with a 16-3 run, as the Pirates downed the Bearcats, 77-65, in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Feb. 6. Whitworth improved to 16-4 overall, 8-3 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 9-9 on the season, 5-6 in the NWC.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior wing Corey Costantino (Ashland, OR/Ashland HS) has been named First Team ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District VIII in men's basketball for the second year in a row. The Academic All-District Team was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Willamette Defeats Lutes, Bearcats Head to Eastern Washington: Currently tied for fourth place (and the final tournament spot) in the NWC standings, the Willamette University menâ??s basketball team heads to Spokane, Wash., and Walla Walla, Wash., this weekend on its annual road swing through the state. Head Coach Gordie James led the Bearcats to a 67-53 victory over Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 30 in Salem, Ore. The â??Cats evened their NWC mark at 5-5 (9-8 overall) and moved into a tie with Linfield College for fourth place.

McClary started both of Willamette's games during the week and averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
