Linfield Edges Willamette, 67–61

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Willamette University (8-7, 3-3 NWC) fell to Linfield College (4-8, 2-2 NWC) 67-61 in a conference matchup at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Despite a strong second-half effort where Willamette outscored Linfield 38-31, the Bearcats could not overcome a 13-point halftime deficit. Willamette's defense was active with 10 steals, but Linfield's nine three-pointers proved decisive in maintaining their lead.
Willamette started strong with a 3-pointer from Dra Uperesa-Thomas just 31 seconds into the half, but Linfield responded by dominating the boards, out-rebounding the Bearcats 23 to 14. Linfield's 11 second-chance points, fueled by nine offensive rebounds, contributed significantly to their lead. Despite both teams committing six turnovers, Linfield capitalized more effectively, leading to a 36-23 advantage at halftime.
Willamette overcame an early deficit with a crucial 38-point surge in the second half, marked by converting 13 of 30 field goals, including four 3-pointers. Effective defense led to six steals, turning Linfield's 10 turnovers into 12 points. Willamette also dominated inside, scoring 18 points in the paint. The half concluded with a tight scoreboard, Linfield narrowly ahead 67-61.
In their next game, the Bearcats will face off against Lewis and Clark University on Friday, Jan. 23. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at home in Salem, Oregon.
