Calder Named Third Team All-West Region by NSCAA

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University men's soccer goalkeeper Braydon Calder (Jr., Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) has been named Third Team All-West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA). Calder helped the Bearcats achieve a 13-5-2 overall record, including 10-2-2 (2nd place) in the Northwest Conference.

Calder and the rest of the Bearcats recorded the most overall wins since the 1991 season and set a team record for conference victories. Willamette finished the season just one point behind NWC champion Whitworth University in the conference standings.

Overall, 33 athletes were named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's Soccer All-West Region Team. The First Team, Second Team and Third Team each included 11 players. A total of six athletes were selected from the NWC.

Third Team All-West Region

Calder made a season-high nine saves in Willamette's 0-0 tie in two overtimes against Whitworth on Nov. 1 at Sparks Field. He recorded a career-high 11 saves against Whitman College on Nov. 3, 2013.

After three seasons with the Bearcats, Calder owns a 1.12 career goals against average. He has achieved 227 career saves on his way to an overall goalkeeping record of 28-16-6. He has earned 11 solo shutouts and three shared shutouts.

Calder was selected First Team All-NWC this season and was Second Team All-NWC in 2013. He has been chosen NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week four times, including three times this fall on Sept. 29, Oct. 13 and Oct. 27. He also was the NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 16, 2013.

Led by Calder, the Willamette defense allowed only 21 goals in 20 games this year. Just 7.2% of shots taken by the opponents resulted in goals. In contrast, Willamette's offense scored 40 goals, as the Bearcats scored on 14.7% of their shots.
