LAKE FOREST, ILL. -- Elyas Ingram scored an unassisted goal 13 seconds into the second overtime period to send Lake Forest College past Willamette University 2-1 in the season opener for both teams on Friday, August 29.
Willamette took a 1-0 lead at 21:53 on a goal by Alan Hernandez (Fr., F, Tigard, OR/Tigard HS). The Bearcats continued to hold their one-goal lead at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Foresters tied the game. Jeremiah Erzen provided the goal on an assist from Ellis Rutili at 47:57. Neither team scored before the end of regulation and both teams were held without a shot in the first overtime.
Lake Forest broke the tie with Ingram's goal. The Foresters outshot the Bearcats 15-5 overall and 4-2 in shots on goal.
Bearcat goalkeeper Braydon Calder (Jr., GK, Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) achieved two saves. Erik Sanetra of LFC registered one save. The Foresters achieved a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The game featured a total of 36 fouls with 20 on Lake Forest and 16 on Willamette. There were three yellow cards -- all on Willamette -- as Sam Gonzalez (Jr., D, Junction City, OR/Junction City HS), Royce Romero (Fr., MF, Waipahu, HI/Punahou School) and Eric Spresser (Jr., MF, Pleasant Hill, OR/Pleasant Hill HS) each went into the book.
Willamette's three-game road trip will continue on Sunday, August 31, when the Bearcats will play at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Game tie is slated for 2:30 p.m. CDT/12:30 p.m. PDT. The trip will conclude at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., on Monday, Sept. 1 at 11:30 a.m. CST/9:30 a.m. PDT.
