Bearcats swim exhibition versus Southwestern Oregon
Jan Beck wins 500 Yard Freestyle
SALEM, Ore. — The Willamette University men's swimming team competed against a strong Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) squad in a dual meet at home on Friday, October 24, 2025. The Bearcats showcased several strong individual performances despite ultimately falling to the Lakers with a final team score of SWOCC 185, Willamette 58.
Willamette's highlight of the evening came in the grueling 500 Yard Freestyle, where first-year Jan Beck (19) dominated the field. Beck touched the wall first with an impressive time of 4:56.99, securing the Bearcats' sole event victory of the meet.
Willamette also earned a number of crucial runner-up and third-place finishes throughout the competition:

Sprint Freestyle: Senior Kevin Olmedo (22) was a standout in the sprint events, taking 2nd place in the 50 Yard Freestyle (22.57) and 3rd place in the 100 Yard Freestyle (50.20).

Breaststroke and IM: first-year Trai Xiong (18) proved to be one of the team's top performers, finishing 2nd in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (59.32) and securing 3rd place in both the 50 Yard Breaststroke (27.49) and the 100 Yard Individual Medley (54.92).

Backstroke: Ethan Barker (18) consistently scored for the Bearcats in backstroke, claiming 3rd place in the 50 Yard Backstroke (27.42) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:01.63).

Freestyle Depth: Nicholas Moore (21) added to the team's scoring, finishing 3rd in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:52.26).
The Willamette 'A' team earned points in both relay events. The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Colin Duran, Ka'olapa Masuko, Trai Xiong, and Kevin Olmedo finished 3rd with a time of 1:43.07. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay squad (Paul Keith, Lucas Cardenas, Jan Beck, and Nicholas Moore) placed 4th.
