Pacific Lutheran Defeats Willamette Twice in Doubleheader of Tennis Matches

(MEN'S TENNIS) SALEM, ORE. -- Pacific Lutheran University lost the #1 doubles match and faced strong opposition in the first set at #4, #5 and #6 singles, but the Lutes held of Willamette University for an 8-1 win in the first match of a doubleheader, Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. In the second match, Pacific Lutheran defeated Willamette by an identical 8-1 score. The wins allowed PLU to improve to 4-3 overall and moved the Lutes into sole possession of second place in the Northwest Conference at 4-1. The Bearcats dropped to 2-4 on the season, 2-3 in the NWC. In the dayâ??s first match, Willametteâ??s top doubles team of Donovan LeDoux (Fr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) and Eric MacMillan (Jr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) edged PLUâ??s #1 team of Jeff Loranger and Justin Peterson, 9-8, after winning a tie-breaker 7-5 to decide the pro set. LeDoux and MacMillan trailed 7-6 during the set, but won back-to-back games to take an 8-7 lead. PLU won the next game to force the tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker, the Lutes took a 5-3 lead, but LeDoux and MacMillan won four consecutive points to win the match.
