SALEM, ORE. -- Toby Krauel has resigned as the head coach of the Willamette University men's tennis team effective Aug. 3 following four years with the Bearcats. Krauel, who commuted from the Portland area to Salem, plans to spend more time with his family and focus on being a competitor in upcoming tennis tournaments.
OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University men's tennis player Joshua Wong (Jr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) opened the NCAA Division III singles bracket at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament with a victory over Dylan Tevlin from Chapman University (Calif.) on Friday, April 27. Wong downed Tevlin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
OJAI, CALIF. -- Joshua Wong (Jr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) from Willamette University was defeated by the #3 seed, Warren Wood from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, during the Round of 32 in the men's NCAA Division III singles bracket at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament on Friday, April 27. Wood defeated Wong, 6-1, 6-1, and will take on #9-seed Justin Wilson from California Lutheran University in the Round of 16.
SALEM, ORE. -- Joshua Wong (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS), a junior on the Willamette University men's tennis team, has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2011-12 season in voting by the NWC head coaches. Willamette senior Cody Ferguson (North Bend, OR/North Bend HS/Western Oregon Univ.) was chosen for Second Team All-NWC recognition.

SALEM, ORE. -- Whitworth University and Willamette University played a very close and competitive men's tennis match on Friday, April 6 at the WU Tennis Courts. Whitworth won two of the three doubles matches for an early lead, before the Pirates and the Bearcats battled it out in singles.
FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Willamette University picked up two wins at the top of the singles lineup against Pacific University on Tuesday, April 3, but the Boxers won the remaining matches to defeat the Bearcats, 7-2, in Northwest Conference men's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Northwest Conference men's tennis match set for Friday, March 30 between Willamette University and George Fox University will be played at the Courthouse Tennis Center (1379 Madison St., NE) starting at 12 p.m. (PDT). The match was originally scheduled for the Willamette University Tennis Courts, but rain on Thursday and a forecast of additional rain on Friday combined to move the match indoors.
HONOLULU, HAWAII -- Joshua Wong (Jr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette University won #1 singles in a match against his hometown team for the Bearcats' lone win in an 8-1 loss to the University of Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday night, March 25, at the Central Oahu Regional Park.
LAIE, HAWAII -- Brigham Young University-Hawaii defeated Willamette University in a pair of men's tennis matches on Monday, March 26 at the BYU-Hawaii Tennis Courts. The Seasiders won the first match, which was played using team tournament scoring, 5-0. BYU-Hawaii also took the second match, which included only singles matched, 6-0.
HONOLULU, HAWAII -- Will Cooper (So., Gresham, OR/Centennial HS) and Will Agnew-Svoboda (So., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) each recorded wins for Willamette University in singles, but the Bearcats fell to nationally ranked Hawaii Pacific University, 7-2, on Saturday, March 24. Hawaii Pacific, ranked #21 in NCAA Division II, improved to 7-3 on the season. Willamette, which competes in NCAA Division III, dropped to 3-5.
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Whitworth University won two singles matches in super tie-breakers, helping the Pirates sweep the singles action and defeat Willamette University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday, March 16. Whitworth upped its record to 5-4 overall, 4-2 in the NWC, while the Bearcats fell to 3-4 overall, 3-4 in the NWC.
SALEM, ORE. -- Whitman College, ranked #8 nationally in NCAA Division III men's tennis, defeated Willamette University, 9-0, at the Courthouse Tennis Center on Monday, March 12. The Missionaries improved to 12-3 overall, 8-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 3-3 overall, 3-3 in the NWC.
