Women's Swimming Team Earns CSCAA All-Academic Honor

SALEM, ORE. -- After finishing the 2012-13 academic school year with a 3.24 team cumulative grade point average, the Willamette University women's swimming team has been rewarded with a Team Scholar All-America Award by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

FEDERAL WAY, WASH. -- Alex Guffey (Fr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) of Willamette University placed seventh in the championship finals of the men's 100-yard freestyle during the last session of the 2013 Northwest Conference Swimming Championships on Sunday evening, Feb. 10 at the King County Aquatic Center.

FEDERAL WAY, WASH. -- Annette Marinello (Fr., Corvallis, OR/Philomath HS) of Willamette University qualified for the championship finals in the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke during preliminary heats at the 2013 Northwest Conference Swimming Championships on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the King County Aquatic Center.

FEDERAL WAY, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's 400-yard medley relay team broke the school record during the first night session of the 2013 Northwest Conference Swimming Championships on Friday, Feb. 8 at the King County Aquatic Center. The Bearcats achieved a time of 4:05.65, to break the old record of 4:08.06, set in 2005.

FEDERAL WAY, WASH. -- Swimmers from throughout the Northwest Conference are converging on the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash., for the 2013 NWC Swimming Championships. Willamette University is hosting the competition, which will begin on Friday, Feb. 8 and continue through Sunday, Feb. 10.

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- The Willamette University and Linfield College women's swimming teams battled through all 11 events during their Northwest Conference dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 26 before the host Wildcats gained a narrow 106-98 victory over the Bearcats. WU held a slim 94-93 lead heading into the 200-yard freestyle relay, but Linfield took first and third in the race to win the meet.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's swimming team trailed by three points entering the final event, but the Bearcats won the 400-yard freestyle relay by a sizable margin to earn a 101-97 victory over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the WU Natatorium. In the women's competition, L&C defeated Willamette, 140-65.

ALISO VIEJO, CALIF. -- Freshman Alex Guffey (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) from the Willamette University men's swimming team won two events to lead the Bearcats at the Soka Triangular on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Bearcats won five events overall while competing in men's and women's swimming against Soka University (Calif.) and Lake Forest College (Illinois).
