Mattox Earns NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Recognition
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University runner Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell University) has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week. Mattox won the 1,500-meter run at the John Knight Twilight meet hosted by Western Oregon University on Friday, April 9.

Mattox won the 1,500-meter run at the John Knight Twilight meet hosted by Western Oregon University on Friday, April 9.
Mattox completed the 1,500 in 4:40.67 for the fastest time by an NWC student-athlete in the event this spring. She won by 1.39 seconds over Maggie Miller from the College of Idaho, who took second in 4:42.06.
A total of 32 runners competed in the 1,500. The time for Mattox was 2.17 seconds away from the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard of 4:38.50.
Mattox owns a provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:48.71. She recorded the time at the Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic on March 19. In 2009, Mattox earned All-America honors in the steeplechase by placing sixth at the NCAA Championships.
