Bearcats Finish Third at Pacific Fall Invitational in Women's Golf

BANKS, ORE. -- Willamette University finished in third place in the team standings at the Pacific Fall Invitational in women's golf as the 36-hole event concluded on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Quail Valley Golf Course. Whitman College won the team title with a score of 637 (310-327).

George Fox University earned second place at 640 (309-331). Willamette's score for third place was 667 (329-338). Lewis & Clark College, which began the day tied with the Bearcats for third place, ended the tournament in fourth place at 679 (329-350).

Corban University was fifth with a score of 691 (339-352), while Pacific Lutheran University was sixth at 697 (342-355). Whitworth University took seventh at 701 (340-361), Linfield College took eighth at 742 (359-383), Pacific University was ninth at 743 (364-379), Trinity Lutheran College placed 10th at 758 (389-369), Oregon Institute of Technology was 11th at 792 (397-395) and University of Puget Sound was 12th at 810 (396-414.

Catelyn Webber from Whitman won medalist honors with a score of 152 (73-79). Three golfers -- Sydney Maluenda from GFU, Brooke Spencer from Corban, and Arielle Valdez from Lewis & Clark -- tied for second place at 156. Maluenda shot 73-83, while Spencer went 76-80 and Valdez carded 80-76.

Abigail Heringer of Linfield and Lou Points from Whitman tied for fifth place with scores of 159. Heringer shot 74-85 and Points registered 77-82.

Willamette's top finisher was Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Monague HS), who took 10th place at 162. She shot an 80 in the first round and recorded an 82 in the second round.

Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) and Mckenzie Weinhold (Jr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno), both from Willamette, were two of four golfers tied for 12th at 165. Sra carded 79-86, while Weinhold shot 82-83.

LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) shot 178 (91-87) for the Bearcats, while Jessi Weaver (Fr., Lincoln City, OR/Taft HS) finished at 179 (88-91).

Willamette is scheduled to compete at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. The tournament will be held at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Spanaway, Wash.
