Weinhold Ties for Ninth and Sra Ties for 11th at NWC Tournament

WOODBURN, ORE. -- Mckenzie Weinhold (Sr., Jr. elig., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) from Willamette University tied for ninth place, and teammate Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) tied for 11th, at the conclusion of the NWC Tournament on Sunday, April 27 at the Oregon Golf Association Golf Course.

Weinhold improved by three strokes from the first round on Saturday to the second round on Sunday. She shot a total of 167 (85-82). Sra attained an overall score of 168 (82-86).

Both Weinhold and Sra were named Second Team All-NWC based on results at the NWC Fall Classic and NWC Spring Classic in addition to the NWC Tournament. Weinhold previously earned Second Team All-NWC honors in 2012, while Sra was named Second Team All-NWC in 2013.

Willamette took sixth place in the NWC Tournament. The Bearcats finished fourth in the overall NWC team standings, which included the NWC Fall Classic (one-fourth), the NWC Spring Classic (one-fourth) and the NWC Tournament (one-half).

George Fox University won the NWC Tournament with a score of 637 (319-318). Whitman College placed second at 667 (333-334) and Whitworth University was third at 675 (337-338). Pacific Lutheran University finished fourth at 692 (356-336), Lewis & Clark College was fifth at 696 (345 351), and Willamette placed sixth with a score of 698 (351-347).

Linfield College took seventh place at 770 (373-397). Pacific University was eighth at 779 (396-383) and University of Puget Sound was ninth at 875 (425-450).

The Bruins of George Fox also grabbed the overall NWC Championship. GFU earned 31 points in the standings by placing second at the NWC Fall Classic, and then winning the NWC Spring Classic and the NWC Tournament.

Whitman was second in the final NWC standings with 27 points and Whitworth was third at 23.5 points. Willamette placed fourth at 18.5 points, while Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran tied for fifth with 16 points. Linfeld placed seventh with eight points, Pacific was eighth with four points and Puget Sound was ninth with no points.

Michal Schuster from Whitworth University earned the individual tournament title at 152 (73-79). Sydney Maluenda of GFU placed second at 154 (77-77) and also received NWC Player of the Year honors. Loreece Magsanide from George Fox was third with a total of 157 (78-79).

Claire Burke of Lewis & Clark and Katie Zajicek of Whitman tied for fourth place at 160. Burke carded 77-83, while Zajicek shot 79-81. Sixth place at 165 was shared by Hailey Ostrom of George Fox, who shot 80-85, and by Catelyn Webber of Whitman, who shot 83-82. Melissa Nugent from GFU gained eighth place at 166 (89-77).

Weinhold and Desirae Haselwood of PLU tied for ninth at 167, as both golfers achieved 85-82. Sra and Emily Cook of PLU matched total scores at 168 to tie for 11th. Sra's 82-86 combined to equal Cook's scores of 87 and 81.

Joining Weinhold and Sra in Willamette's lineup were LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) and Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Manogue HS). Gallup improved by seven strokes from a 91 in the first round to and 84 in the second round for a total of 175. Levy completed the tournament with a score of 188 (93-95).

First Team All-NWC selections were achieved through a point system using results from the NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Tournament. In addition to Maluenda, other First Team choices were Schuster from Whitworth, Zajicek and Webber from Whitman, and Nugent and Magsanide from George Fox.

Golfers who were named Second Team All-NWC included Weinhold and Sra, plus Ostrom of George Fox, Burke from Lewis & Clark, Abigail Heringer of Linfield and Nicole Lomax of Whitworth.
