Second Team All-NWC Selection Enters her Senior Year
SALEM, ORE. Sarah Desautels (MF/F, Snohomish, WA/Glacier Park HS) will be a senior this fall for the Bearcat womens soccer team. In her first three seasons at Willamette University, Desautels has scored a total of 12 goals and 4 assists.
Much of Willamette offensive attack has gone through Desautels, especially over the past two seasons. She has earned nine of her goals and two of her assists since the start of 2012.
Sarah is a leader both on and off the field where her actions speak louder than her words. She is a soft spoken person with one of the most powerful shots I've seen in college soccer, she can bend a ball to the upper v and/or hit the side netting from 25+ yards out, Head Coach Hillary Arthur said.
Last fall, she recorded the game-winning assist in Willamettes 1-0 win over George Fox University on Oct. 20. The games only goal was scored with two seconds left in the second overtime after Desautels took a corner kick. Jill Phillips (Jr., MF, Fairbanks,AK/West Valley HS) scored the goal on a header the ball.
In her career, Desautels has taken a total of 135 shots, including 69 shots on goal. She has placed at least 50% of her shots on target each season a solid percentage in soccer.
Equally important are her skills at controlling the ball and distributing it to others. She is able to keep a possession moving forward with quality moves in the midfield, and she can send the ball to teammates to create a shot on goal.
She is a selfless player, who doesn't enjoy the spotlight, and yet it seems to follow her everywhere on the field, Arthur said. Opposing teams double and triple team her as she is skilled at settling and beating opposing players She also is very composed with the ball at her feet creating combination play and scoring opportunities.
Desautels has played in all 60 games, including 52 starts, since joining the Bearcats. Her impact has been significant, not only creating scoring chances, but also by providing opportunities for others.
She was named Second Team All-Northwest Conference in 2013. She received Honorable Mention All-NWC recognition in 2012.
Sarah Desautels played in all 20 games last season. She led the Bearcats in scoring with 4 goals and 2 assists. She placed a total of 37 shots on goal.
