SALEM, Ore. -- The Bearcats on the women's triathlon team will host Cal Poly Humboldt in a Splash and Dash event on the Willamette University campus on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. (PDT). The competition is scheduled to begin with a 500-yard swim at the WU Natatorium and will conclude with a two-mile run around the edge of campus. Fans are encouraged to attend the swimming and then exit through the front of the Sparks Center to follow the running segment.
Willamette is in its third season of women's triathlon. The Bearcats are led by Ella Isaacson (Jr., Saint Paul, MN/Central HS), Veronica Castille (Jr., Round Rock, TX/Cedar Ridge HS), and Abbey Staniec (So., Stockton, CA/Lincoln HS).
Isaacson was chosen Honorable Mention All-America in 2021-22 after placing 19th among NCAA Division III student-athletes at the Collegiate Triathlon Championships in the fall of 2021. She took 28th place at the Collegiate Triathlon Championships this past year.
Castille was 23rd at the 2021 Collegiate Triathlon Championships. Staniec was a consistent performer as a first-year member of the team last season. She was selected as the East All-Region Freshman after WU competed at the D3 Eastern Regional at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
Head Women's Triathlon Coach Brett Franz enters his third season. Franz previously served as the assistant head coach of cross country and track and field at Willamette. He is in his 17th year on the coaching staff.
