Pomona-Pitzer Defeats Bearcats, 3-1; Willamette Downs Occidental, 3-0
THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. -- Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) defeated Willamette University, 3-1, in volleyball on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, hosted by California Lutheran University. The Sagehens won 21-15, 25-5, 25-22, 25-20.
Fincher notches 11 kills, Holt adds eight in WU's 3-0 sweep
THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. -- Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) defeated Willamette University, 3-1, in volleyball on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, hosted by California Lutheran University. The Sagehens won 21-15, 25-5, 25-22, 25-20.
Willamette also played Occidental College on Friday. The Bearcats moved past the Tigers, 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-23, 25-22. WU is now 4-2 on the season.
Two Bearcats achieved double-digit kills in their match against Pomona-Pitzer. Sarah Fincher (Jr., OH, Reno, NV/Bishop Manogue HS/Southwest Baptist Univ.) tallied 13 kills, while Alexa Dowdell (So., MH/OPP, Mililani, HI/Maryknoll HS) had 11.
Lindsey Compton (Jr., OH/S, Portola, CA/Portola HS/University of Hartford) dished out a match-high39 assists.
Allie Frappier pounded out 20 kills for Pomona-Pitzer to lead all players in the match.
Against Occidental in the team's second match of the night, Fincher pavedthe way to victory with a team-high 11 kills. She finished thematch with just two attacking errors and a .409 hitting percentage.
Alida Holt (So., OH, Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt HS) finished right behind Fincher with eight kills and Comptonprovided the 'Cats with 26 assists.
Claire Strohm led all players with 13 kills for Occidental. Cassandra Guidice also registered double-digit kills with 11.
